The project SERBIA.NET started in Belgrade as a part of the seminar
tittled NETWORKING at the initiative of the cultural centre Cinema
REX. Its aim is to bring culture managers together, introduce
them to each other and to encourage them to work together.
The seminar brought together art managers and cultural event organizers,
representatives of state financed cultural institutions and NGOs
from Kragujevac, Niš, Užice, Cacak, Becej, Novi Sad and Belgrade.
During their work which lasted two days they defined problems
and collected relevant facts on the basis of which the goals of
the project SERBIA.NET were defined. It was concluded that there
is a need and that time is ripe for this kind of coordination
and collaboration. It is obvious that this is one of rare means
of decentralizing culture, since the initiative to collaborate
came from the very root. When proposing joint projects as well
as exchange projects is concerned the centres and initiatives
from Belgrade, Novi Sad and Becej set a good example (the participants
who came from Novi Sad and Becej were particularly interested
in developing projects in Vojvodina) which indicates that the
level of development of the provincial scenes is low. The negotiations
on the future co-opration have alredy started in the course of
the meeting. Dom Omladine Beograda (the Belgrade Youth Centre)
offered its projects, REX, CEMPI and ANT negotiated with colleagues
on possible profile of joint projects.
Professor Milena Dragicevic Šešic and Andreas Broekmann delivered
introductory lectures about the aspects
of networking in Yugoslavia and abroad. On Friday, March 3, 2000
Andreas Broekmann gave a lecture about new trends in the development
of media art and the strategies of using electronic networks,
which provided examples that range
from autonomous art projects to post media on-line experience
of the international groups of media activists and artists.
