Projects 2007

in this year, we are continuing our efforts in bringing contemporary art practices closer to young people. In doing this we try to focus on the range of socially relevant issues important for young people, institutions in charge for their education, policy makers and arctistic scene. We approached or applied with our projects to many possible donors, including ECF, Ministry of Culture, City Secretariate for Culture, City Secretariate for Youth and Sports, Municipality of Stari Grad, CDA (Canadian International Development Agency), Holland Embassy, SDC (Swiss Agency fo Developement and Cooperation), Pro Helvetia etc...
Here is the list of the projects that continue our activities and promote our methods of work with young people and audience:

Secondary Schooling Theatre

"Dead Poets Society" team before their third performance in Rex

We see this project both as a proper continuation of our numerous activities with secondary school population in Belgrade and Serbia and as an innovation in the field of creative work with young people. Using the media of theatre and its reflective potentials, we address the young generation as well as wider community in a way that opens possibilities and appetites for social change.

FLUX JUNIOR includes young people in the process of conceiving and creating works of art in order to direct their creativity towards better understanding, shaping and improving of their position in society. The contemporary art and artistic methodology are used as resources for creative exploration of the problems of society, as seen by young generation. Workshops and production process brings together recognized artists and pupils of primary and secondary schools from the city of Belgrade and it’s suburbs. The workshop process is aimed to develop creative skills, individual capacities and general social awareness of its participants.

EUROSCOPE
Is the project of promotion and popularisation of contemporary European art practice and its socially engaged repertoire in wider public - especially young - in Belgrade. Rex is providing the exhibition model for transfer and translation of capacities and benefits of that practice to the local context. Project uses the capacities of contemporary arts to foster critical debate, questioning and better understanding of socially and politically relevant topics brought to focus by art-works.

YEAST for Arts (see www.rex.b92.net/kvasac)
YEAST is the youth web-magazine for culture and politics, aimed for developing,
supporting and promotion of critical thinking and creative social engagement of
young people. As a whole, YEAST is an art project that unveils dormant creative
potentials of young generations. YEAST's special edition for contemporary arts will
focus on contemporary art production. Appart of its regular content and concept,
YEAST for arts will deal with contemporary art, its powers and capabilities to
approach to the younger and wider public. This issue of Yeast will appear as a
kind of conceptual ''portal” to better understanding and reception of contemporary
art production.

The White World of White Cheese
Project explores, documents and creatively interprets ancient and recent regional 'cultural exchange' in the domain of production and consumption of white cheese.Teams of young researchers from all over the Serbia explore the supportive role of cheese in economical changes and its marketability now and in the future. While documenting both traditional and innovative production process and usage of a white cheese as an everyday, basic food item (in some regions of Serbia it is treated almost like a bread); as an necessary item in local dishes (pies, musakkas, cakes, ?, ?, ?); or as a product made only for sale, project detects and documents a rich cultural layer of this agricultural product.
