LATEST NEWS: FLUX JUNIOR HAS RECEIVED THE GRANT FROM THE MAJOR OF BELGRADE!!!

This year our activities were directed towards further development of the project Kvasac, finalisation of works and exhibitions of the project Flux junior from year 2005 as well as the possible realisation of a new phase of this project.

The editorial team of Kvasac will be working not only on expanding the number of collaborators for the realisation and preparation of the magazine but also on locating and contacting new eventual donators for the financing of organisational and production's costs. The issue 04 of Kvasac (Yeast) was still without any banners or links to other sites of eventual sponsors. The reason for this was that according to our judgement and the reactions of our site visitors, this was the first issue which has complied with the conceptual and visual standards that we were looking for. The task fulfilled we now turn to our new possible sponsors or donators.
The design and technical questions of the site was done by our permanent collaborator Tamara Radanović. www.rex.b92.net/kvasac

Within the scope of the Flux junior project the Resource Center Belgrade continued working on art projects beyond existing forms of cultural production and presentation. This means we stick to our strategy designed in 2005 when the project was initiated and under which the project became well-known. Thanks to excellent work of the artists Dragana Žarevac and Margareta Jelić and long lasting investment of the Cultural Center REX into cooperation with primary and secondary schools, Flux junior  succeeded in bringing the gap between the creative capacities of young people and the restrictive institutional and societal frameworks of their education and growing up and thus mapping methodological and production standards for further work on similar events. After exhibions in Primary school Duško Radović, First Belgrade grammar school and Cultural Centre Rex the posters of the praticipants will be exhibited on this year's BELEF on 8 billboards on different locations in the town!

Our multimedia and multidisciplinary project Kvasac became the final outcome and source of our long-year experience in the develpment of methodology for creative work with young people. The editorial team and collaborators deal with topics from contemporary life working in the "no man's land" between informational art and research journalism and at the same time confirming to new media and contemporary communication standards. It seems that the new design, stable composition of the editorial team and growing number of mentors and collaborators attracts more and more users of internet. Lately, the total number of page views up till now reached 1.200.000. The editor is Nebojša Milikić.
And here some words about how we work and about the permanent columns:
- preparation of articles:  the collaborators either choose their topic by themselves or a topic is assigned to them by the editor. Afterwards mentors are being chosen from different areas of activity such as culture, art or science depending on the nature of the task and the material collected . These mentors help the young authors to fulfill their ambitions by providing inputs of journalistic, artistic and expert knowledge and skills. In this way the space is opened for popularisation of knowledge and democratisation of contemporary research methods. The editorial team engages in locating, analysing and creative mapping of problems that are important for young generations.
Examples:
  • Mirjana Paunović and Vladimir Lazić prepared a report for issue 04 about the changes in the names of companies and their shops including the visual contrasts between the old and new logos. For issue 05 they are working on a deeper analysis of this phenomenon with the support of two mentors, one of the most successful graphical designers Borut Vild and one political economist.
  • Valentina Bošković prepared an article in issue 04 about the absence of female substantive forms denoting many occupations. For next issue she is working on reviewing the ideological and psychological causes for this difficulties. Her mentors will be the activist of the organisation Milica Gudović "Zene na delu" as well as one psychologist.
  • Dragana Krstić has been working on the survey about transition with pupils from secondary schools. For issue 05 she will do the same survey with the older generation of employees of the once famous local computer company.
- columns such as "Brain streaming" and "The face of the place" provide the readers with involving documentary materials, be it in its original form, be it as creatively commented articles.

EXAMPLES
In issue 02, the column "Brain streaming" presented a report about the lecture on  "Kitch and Serbia" presented in 1. Belgrade *gimnazija* organised with the support of Kvasac. In issue 04,  the readers can regard the photos of the lecture "Young historians" which took place in 'Dom omladine'.

The column "The face of the place" brings original photo reports from Zagreb, Sofia and in the next issue from Pristina.

- The column "Red Pill Reader" dicloses neglected but often the most valueable results of temporary political thought and essays which are given as a proposition for "compulsory reading", mostly prepared by an artist, a respectable activist or cultural worker.
The guiding question for the composition of the reader is " Which four articles should young people read to understand in which world they are living?" In issue 03, the reader was prepared by the editor Nebojša Milikić in in issue 04 it was one of the most active members of the Anarchy-Syndicate Ratibor Trivunac.

- "Kvasac test" combines and tests the knowledge from popular, general culture and school material in form of puzzles. In issue 04, the test combined knowledge from movie culture and sociology (adapted from the schoolbook for the 4th grade). The general idea behind it is to adapt theoretical knowledge from schoolbooks to generally known topics from contemporary science and culture.

- "Kvasac cartoon" and "Flash lullaby" are creative equivalents to basic conceptual and technical principles of working on a magazine. The cartoons are being produced at the workshops in Rex or are being initiated by the editor's team. "Flash lullaby" is a column which is targeted at the youngest readers, with the idea that they watch this video-audio story and.....go to bed.

- "When they were young" is a column which presents the earliest artistical works of today's known old-generation artists.

This year we still use last year's grant from the Mayor of Belgrade, as well as a grant from Pro Helvetia which we were awarded. We applied for grants at the Ministry of Culture and again at the Mayor of Belgrade office. The editorial team starts to search for interested donators among the successful local companies.
